The first WIPO Global Forum on Intellectual Property and Artificial Intelligence is scheduled for 9–10 November 2026 at WIPO headquarters in Geneva, with simultaneous online access. WIPO says participation is free and open to Member States, Observers and other interested stakeholders, with interpretation in all six official UN languages.
The programme is designed to connect issues that are often debated separately: AI-related inventorship and authorship, the legal status of model inputs and outputs, regulatory and legislative change, relevant court decisions, and the evolution of licensing and market responses. WIPO states that the forum is for policy exchange and shared understanding; it is not itself a norm-setting body.
What to expect
- AI inventorship, authorship and ownership questions
- Copyright, training data and machine-generated outputs
- Patent, trademark, design and trade-secret implications
- Cross-border regulation, litigation and licensing models
Who should attend
- Intellectual-property policymakers and patent-office officials
- AI companies, creators and technology-rights holders
- IP lawyers, licensing professionals and academics
- Civil-society and standards specialists
Artificial intelligence is forcing connected questions across patents, copyright, trademarks, designs and trade secrets. This forum is WIPO's new cross-cutting venue for comparing national approaches, court decisions and licensing models without treating each right in isolation.
